Canon C50 vs R5 C Dual ISO: Why I Prefer 3200 Over 6400 (Real-World)
Canon C50 vs Canon R5 C dual native ISO: here’s why I prefer 3200 over 6400 for real-world shooting. Low light is great… until your highlights clip—let’s talk highlight rolloff, dynamic range, and ISO “sweet spots.” The Canon C50 is an incredible-looking cinema camera on paper (800 / 6400 base ISO). But depending on how you shoot, the Canon R5 C’s 800 / 3200 dual gain can actually be the better practical choice—especially when you care about highlights, neon signs, street lights, and clean rolloff at night. In this video I break down: • What dual native / dual gain ISO actually means (and why it’s a big deal) • Why ISO 6400 can blow highlights faster in real locations • Why I like living at 800 and 3200 on the R5 C • Highlight rolloff differences (and why it can look like “posterizing”) • C-Log2 vs C-Log3 thoughts when shooting RAW • A key caveat: manually setting the C50 base ISO to 6400, then bringing ISO down (tradeoffs!) Gear mentioned: Canon R5 C, Canon C50, Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8, Variable ND (and when I skip it) Drop a comment: how do you use dual native ISO? Do you prefer 6400, or is 3200 the real sweet spot? 👍 Like + subscribe for more cinematography, camera reviews, and editing tutorials. — Ash von Chamier Check out / @mielz full "C50 vs R5 C Footage Comparison" video here: • Canon C50 First Impressions: Better Than R5C?
