Chachagua Rainforest Hotel & Hot Springs, Costa Rica - comfort and thermal pools in the jungle

Chachagua Rainforest Hotel & Hot Springs is located in the middle of the jungle in northern Costa Rica. It considers itself a sustainable eco-lodge. The hotel's more than 100-hectare grounds are ideal for exploring the rich flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest. Relaxation can be found in the thermal waters of the hot springs. La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano are also not far away. The hotel is relatively remote and away from the main tourist center of La Fortuna. However, it is very well signposted and easily accessible, even though the road becomes unpaved towards the end. The last section from the reception to our room is very interesting: we have to cross a stream by car! 28 cozy bungalows and luxurious villas are spread across the grounds. The construction is rustic and uses natural materials. Our Rainforest Bungalow is located in the heart of the rainforest. The room and bathroom are very spacious and comfortable. The highlight, however, is the covered terrace with the colorful hammock, from which you can observe the jungle. And you can listen to the sound of the daily rain shower! 😁 The hotel has two restaurants: Morpho for smaller meals and snacks, and the main restaurant, Colibri. The food is delicious, featuring Costa Rican and international dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. Both restaurants are beautifully situated amidst lush nature. The hotel's hot springs, the naturally heated mineral springs, are something truly special. The artificially created small pools and basins with water over 30°C (86°F) are beautifully integrated into the jungle. Here, you can relax and enjoy nature. There's also a "regular" hotel pool, but the hot springs have much more atmosphere! We take a hike along the creek that flows through the hotel grounds. The enchanted path through the jungle leads us to a bridge over a picturesque waterfall. The diversity of plants and flowers here in the rainforest is always impressive! The hotel also offers free guided hikes, which we gladly participate in. We learn many interesting things about the nature of the jungle, and above all, the guide also finds the rainforest animals, which we hardly see even up close due to their excellent camouflage. Our personal highlight of the tour is a colorful toucan with its enormous beak. What we liked: Our bungalow was quiet, and we slept very well. And the romantic terrace with the hammock was wonderful. The beautifully landscaped pools with the hot thermal water were perfect for relaxing. What we didn't like so much: The breakfast is very good, but could have offered a bit more variety. Also, the sweet pastries were swarmed with flies; they lacked a cover. Our Conclusion: A beautiful hotel surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of tourists.
