Lecture 13 (2014). Transient heat conduction. Multidimensional systems

This lecture continues with unsteady/transient heat conduction. The lecture focuses on transient heat transfer in multidimensional systems. The method of superposition is discussed where the product approach is used to construct solutions for two and three dimensional heat transfer. An example is done which is based on Example 4.8 in the text book on obtaining temperatures at different locations in a brass cylinder. The lecture was based on the textbook of Cengel and Ghajar (4th edition) and was presented as part of a heat transfer class to the fourth year students of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering by Prof Josua Meyer, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering of the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Lecture was presented on 25 February 2014.
