Presencia Literarias en la Universidad de Cádiz: Héctor Abad Faciolince dialoga con Daniel Heredia

The third event of the October 2022 Literary Presences program at the University of Cádiz, organized by the University Extension Service of the Vice-Rectorate for Culture at the University of Cádiz, with sponsorship from the Unicaja Foundation and the collaboration of the Manuel de Falla Bookstore, took place on October 26, 2022. Writer, translator, and journalist Héctor Abad Faciolince engaged in a conversation with writer and cultural manager Daniel Heredia at the Constitución 1812 Building in Cádiz at 7:00 p.m. Héctor Abad Faciolince was born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1958. He studied Modern Languages ​​and Literatures at the University of Turin (Italy). He was a columnist for Semana magazine and currently writes regularly for El Espectador. He is also a regular contributor to El País and the Mexican magazine Letras Libres. He was the director of the Eafit University Library. In addition to numerous essays, translations, and literary criticism, she has published, among others, the following books: "Asuntos de un hidalgo disoluto" (Alfaguara, 1994); "Tratado de culinaria para mujeres tristes" (Alfaguara, 1997); "Fragmentos de amor furtivo" (Alfaguara, 1998); "Basura" (2000), which won the Casa de América Prize for Innovative Narrative in Spain; "Angosta" (2003); "El olvido que seremos" (2006), her most celebrated book, in which she recounts the story of her father, Dr. Héctor Abad Gómez, and the circumstances of his murder; "Traiciones de la memoria" (2009); "Testamento involuntario" (2011); and "La Oculta" (2015), winner of the Cálamo Prize for best book of the year. His most recent book is "Except My Heart, Everything Is Fine" (Alfaguara, October 2022). In 2017, Alfaguara reissued "The Oblivion We Will Be," along with the documentary "Letter to a Shadow" (2015), inspired by this book, which presents the political violence that plagued Colombia from the intimate perspective of the Abad family's grief. In 2020, Alfaguara published "What Was Present," the moving creative journey of a writer that traces his life from 1985 to the publication of "The Oblivion We Will Be," which was also adapted into a film by Fernando Trueba. In 1998, he was awarded the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Prize in the opinion column category; he received the same award in 2006. His books have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Of these, Angosta's has been awarded in China, while the English and Portuguese versions of "El olvido que seremos" were awarded in the United States and Portugal, respectively.
