My First Sprinter Interior Teardown Took 4 Days | Web Builder Builds a Van Ep. 2

On October 5th, 2025, I opened a new tool bag and began my first-ever physical build: stripping the passenger interior from a 2005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The teardown took four working days. Three of those days are shown in this episode—and somehow, one stubborn seat consumed two of them. I am a web developer, not a carpenter, mechanic or professional van builder. Before starting this project, I had never built anything like this, attended a woodworking class or worked seriously on a vehicle. What appeared to be a straightforward interior teardown quickly became a fight with stacked nuts, stubborn seat mounts, unexpected wall tiles and hardware that had no interest in cooperating. IN THIS EPISODE: I begin removing the first passenger seat An exterior-style wall tile falls from inside the van Three stacked nuts create the first major obstacle The original seat-removal plan fails I separate the seat from its supporting base The remaining seats and mounting structures come out Interior side panels and fittings are removed Rear air-conditioning components are dismantled Four working days finally reveal most of the passenger shell The roof panels and front cabin remain for a later stage, but by the end of this episode, the original passenger interior has largely disappeared. ABOUT THE SERIES Web Builder Builds a Van follows a web developer with no previous woodworking, mechanical or van-building experience as he converts a 2005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter into a practical DIY camper van. This is an honest first-time build documenting the mistakes, setbacks, lessons and gradual progress—not a professional conversion completed inside a fully equipped workshop. THE VAN Vehicle: 2005 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Engine: 2.2-liter diesel Original configuration: Passenger van Previous use: Mobile health laboratory Odometer when purchased: 94,000 The van spent part of its working life travelling to remote areas while transporting doctors, medical teams and equipment. It was later auctioned by the government and eventually purchased by me from a subsequent owner. The goal is not to create the most expensive or luxurious camper. It is to build a dependable, practical and comfortable place for travelling.
