The beautiful port city of Tela is perhaps the most peaceful and safe city in Honduras. It has the most beautiful beaches of clean, white sand. Tela, Honduras, is a city visited by tourists from all over the world seeking beautiful beaches and good seafood, which Tela offers in greater variety. Tela's specialty is "baleadas," followed by the delicious fried fish dishes found in every restaurant in the area. Breaded shrimp and garlic shrimp are delicacies that can be enjoyed in this beautiful city of Tela, Atlantida, Honduras. Tela has a variety and abundance of hotels and restaurants to stay in and enjoy vacations and leisure trips to the fullest. The city of Tela is the first mestizo community in the department of Atlantida. Its founding dates back to 1524 when it was founded by Spaniards who from the very beginning named it Villa de El Triunfo de La Cruz, after the day they arrived on the shores of Tela, May 3rd. This date is dedicated in the calendar as the Day of the Holy Cross. Initially, Villa de El Triunfo de La Cruz was located further east of the bay, but due to mosquito infestations that caused many deaths from yellow fever and malaria, the town was moved further west to the current city of Tela. The name Triunfo de la Cruz changed throughout history, and people, for short, removed the word Triunfo and replaced it with a T, calling the place Tla Cruz. By 1850, it was called Tela, but this was a mutation of the name, which was left as Tela for short. The city's greatest boom came in the late 1800s, when banana cultivation intensified among Honduran producers. In 1905, the Cuyamel Fruit Company was founded in Cuyamel Omoa Cortes. Shortly after, the largest fruit company of all time, the United Fruit Company (UFCO), arrived in Tela. In 1912, United, or Mamita Yunai, received a 99-year concession to purchase land from farmers and grow bananas on a large industrial scale. The same contract included the construction of a railroad to connect the ports of Honduras' northern coast. Tornabe is home to Garifuna people from Saint Vincent. The Caribbean Garifuna people of Honduras and most of Central America were never slaves. They were taken from Africa as such, but that changed during a shipwreck off the coast of Saint Vincent when the slave ships fell victim to a hurricane that caused the fi In 1492, the first expedition led by Christopher Columbus set sail from Puerto Palos de la Frontera on August 3, arriving on October 12, 1492. After that, a massive migration of Spaniards began with the intention of gaining glory and land in the New World. In the following years, thousands and thousands of conquistadors settled in America. Spanish rule lasted almost three centuries until the Central American Declaration of Independence was signed in 1821. Tornabe is one of the main Garifuna villages on the north coast of Honduras.
