■Theme: "Cancer Survivor Conversations" The theme of this 27th episode is the 10th installment of our "Cancer Survivor Conversations" series. Our guest is Yuko Mitobe of Cancer Salon ~Cancer Chat Cafe. In 2018, Mitobe was diagnosed with stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma after experiencing a choking cough. She subsequently underwent standard treatment and clinical trials. This time, we'll hear from Mitobe about the benefits and challenges she experienced from participating in clinical trials, as well as her thoughts on her various activities, including running a local cancer salon and hosting public lectures. ■Guest Yuko Mitobe A 48-year-old resident of Kodaira City, Tokyo, with stage 4 lung cancer, she was diagnosed in 2018 and is now in her fourth year. At the time of her diagnosis, her children were in fifth and second grade. She left her job due to anxiety and poor health. Unable to undergo surgery or radiation therapy, she began endless chemotherapy. She feels lonely because there are no people around her who are in the same situation. After joining a cancer patient group, she began working for a company that understands cancer. She realized the importance of the voices of those affected and began sharing them. She wanted to create a place for peer support in the community, where people can meet. In February 2022, she launched the "Cancer Chat Cafe" for cancer patients and their families. The cafes are held monthly, alternating between public facilities in Kodaira City and a public bathhouse in Chiyoda Ward, where she works.
