Dump At The Dump Not On The Street

I was headed to the dump when I started thinking about something we have all seen: an old couch, a mattress, or a pile of trash sitting on the side of the road. Can you actually get in trouble for that? The answer is yes. Under California Penal Code section 374.3, illegally dumping trash, garbage, furniture, construction debris, concrete, asphalt, and other materials on public or private property without permission can result in fines and other penalties. For a first offense, the minimum fine starts at $250 and can increase significantly for repeat offenders or commercial dumping violations.
