El Juez Villegas desmonta el bulo sobre Aldama: delatar al PSOE no es traicionar, es servir a la ley
What do you think? Does Spanish law reward informers, traitors? I ask this question in light of the recent Mascarillas case verdict. As you know, a corruption scheme linked to power, specifically within the political sphere, was being tried, involving people belonging to or close to the Socialist Party. Some of the defendants received extremely long sentences, exceeding 20 years. However, one of them, the businessman Víctor de Aldama, precisely the one who denounced the others, received a much lighter sentence, about 4 years of imprisonment, and what's more, he won't go to prison. Why is this? Well, some will say, it's because the judges are a bunch of right-wingers waging 'lawfare,' judicial warfare, against the left, and therefore a very clear message must be sent to society: if you betray the socialists, the left, you will be rewarded, and here you have how well Mr. Aldama has fared. This explanation, besides being false, reveals a profound legal ignorance because there are legal reasons, grounds in law, that justify and legitimize this court decision.
