I was woken up by the noise of a garbage truck emptying a container. The whole thing was happening right next to me, so I grabbed my camera, and that's how this vlog began :-) It's freezing cold, -8 degrees Celsius. It's going to be a sunny day, and I want to take advantage of it because I plan to build an igloo. It's a childhood dream of mine, which I never accomplished. There was always too little snow, or my mom was already calling me home because I was freezing as a child :-) So I started by looking for a suitable spot. It turns out it's not that easy. I looked at a certain river, but it turned out there was a snowmobile path there and people drove by every now and then. However, I would prefer a remote location. So I ended up at a parking lot along the route and decided to build my igloo there :-) There was a flat clearing nearby, but access to it was somewhat limited by piles of cleared snow. So I decided to get my tools ready and clear the snow to have better access to the construction site :-) I ate breakfast and started construction. In this episode, you'll learn how to cut or shape blocks from snow. In my case, I had to use a saw to cut the blocks because the snow was very loose. Even though I had already built part of the igloo, I had to start over because the whole thing would collapse. So I started building again on a cleared area and on a solid foundation. After a while, I had to take a break for hot water and a banana :-) I went back to work, but I didn't manage to finish before sunset. The next day, I decided to continue. The temperature dropped to -20 degrees Celsius, and that was a real challenge :-) I filmed the entire construction from various angles, shooting timelapses with a GoPro10 and Insta360. Creating the roof was the hardest part, as I was worried the structure would collapse. So I decided to glue the blocks together by spraying them with water. At such a low temperature, the blocks bonded instantly.
