Twist and Shout The Beatles Drum Cover Ringo Premier Set
Quick Drum Cover. I didn't make it clear I was using 1960s Plastic Premier Everplay drum heads. After doing this I felt that the 18" super zyn was a bit lighter than Ringo's The bass drum had some felt on the inside of each head and some gaffer taped to the outside. Nothing was put inside the bass drum. Both heads were tuned to their absolute lowest. Any lower and the heads would have gone completely wrinkled. Ringo's sounds like that a bit on the track. I also noticed that even after half an hours playing the Premier 250 bass drum pedal beater (the leather side) was starting to dig a hole in the head.So if I had to stake my life on it I would say that there were calf skins on the tom and the bass drum batter heads probably with a moleskin patch where the beater makes contact that was probably regularly changed. The snare was bright but comparable to the sound on the record. So I think Premier Everplays on that? Ringo's might have had a well played head or damping from the damper or his ciggie box (unlikely with all those wild fills going on). The track with the drums on their own had a bit of an ambient mic (AKG C414) mixed in to track to mimic the spill onto the vocal mics. It was placed about 6-8 feet in front of the bass drum. I'd like to recommend www.ringosbeatlekits.com and its author Gary Astridge whose incredible and thorough research must have settled quite a few arguments and provided inspiration for experiments like these. I hope you enjoyed this Gordon Elsmore
