On National Naturalization Day, people throughout the Netherlands officially acquire Dutch citizenship. The municipality of Den Helder celebrated the day with a ceremony at the Rescue Museum. While small naturalization ceremonies take place throughout the year, December 15th has been designated National Naturalization Day. Municipalities throughout the country will pay special attention to the significance of Dutch citizenship on this day. Moreover, for many people, the national naturalization ceremony is the final step in the process of obtaining Dutch citizenship. After the guests have made a declaration of solidarity, they officially become Dutch citizens.
