On October 10, 1960, National Day, a grand parade ceremony was held at 10 a.m. at the parade platform in front of the Jieshou Hall, with President Chiang Kai-shek, also the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, personally officiating as the grand review officer. During the parade, the armored band was the highlight, with all members seated in jeeps, demonstrating impressive driving skills and musical performance, earning unanimous praise from the audience. Across from the parade platform stood the military flags of the three branches, and as the military police units marched past, they saluted the reviewing officer. Following them were forward-looking troops trained with new military techniques, the engineer corps with modern equipment, paratroopers, and the artillery corps with their massive cannons, all showcasing the modern strength of the military. The Air Force’s F-100 fighter jets performed an overhead pass in formation above Jieshou Hall, adding a thrilling atmosphere to the parade. Among the marching units, the female soldiers’ unit was particularly notable, composed of students from the Ministry of National Defense’s Youth Corps, the Political Warfare Cadres Academy, and the National Defense Medical College. Also present were frontline units from Kinmen and Matsu, cadets from the Army Academy in new uniforms marching in unison, and students from the Political Warfare Cadres Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Navy Academy, all solemnly advancing past the grand review officer. The Navy Academy’s drum and bugle corps, various tank units, artillery units with large cannons, anti-aircraft units with electronic target systems and 90mm anti-aircraft guns, along with the Army medical units’ mobile convoy and the engineering corps’ heavy equipment, all made their appearances. The troops quickly and efficiently assembled in front of the parade platform to listen to the President’s address.
