Public hearings on the justification of the license for the operation of the new unit of Rostov NPP were held on October 25 in Dubovsky district of Rostov region and on October 27 in Volgodonsk. Participants in the public hearings spoke in favor of issuing a license for the operation of the fourth power unit of Rostov NPP, according to official reports of Rosenergoatom concern. However, environmentalists do not agree with this position. Ecologist, candidate of technical sciences Vladimir Shalimov spoke about the problems associated with the operation of the nuclear power plant and the commissioning of another power unit in an interview with the "Caucasian Knot". The first problem voiced by the ecologist is the lack of a reserve underground water supply for the city of Volgodonsk, as provided for by the Civil Defense and Emergencies regulations in the event of a major accident at the nuclear power plant. Another problem that the city will face in the event of a radiation disaster is the lack of a third bridge, which is necessary for the timely evacuation of the city's population from the affected area. And finally, the third problem is related to the fact that the operation of the nuclear power plant in the form in which it is currently organized harms the bioresources of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir.
