Hertha BSC – 1. FC Magdeburg Highlights 2. Bundesliga, 15. Spieltag | Sportschau Fußball

Hertha BSC suffered their first defeat in the 2. Bundesliga since mid-October. Their impressive winning streak came to an end against bottom-of-the-table 1. FC Magdeburg on matchday 15. All the highlights from the first and second Bundesliga are available every Monday morning at midnight in the ARD Mediathek and on sportschau.de: https://www.sportschau.de/fussball/bu... We'd love for you to follow us on Instagram:   / sportschau   Check out our website: https://www.sportschau.de Our Sportschau section in the Mediathek: https://www.ardmediathek.de/sport/ Alexander Nollenberger scored the opening goal in the 74th minute on Sunday (December 7, 2025), and Rayan Ghrieb sealed the 2-0 victory in the final minute of stoppage time. Hertha Berlin had suffered their last defeat, a 2-3 loss to VfL Bochum, conceding goals in that match as well. Magdeburg coach Petrik Sander told Sportschau: "We didn't dwell on Hertha's run beforehand; we focused entirely on ourselves. My team now seems like a unit, isn't so easily unsettled, and is sticking to their game plan." Hertha striker Fabian Reese admitted: "We didn't play a good first half; we didn't capitalize on our chances when the score was 0-0. We weren't up to par for the goals we conceded; we lacked what had made us strong recently." This result dealt a blow to the promotion hopes of Stefan Leitl's team. Magdeburg, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief after their fourth win of the season, even though they remain at the bottom of the table due to a worse goal difference than Dynamo Dresden. After their well-deserved 2-0 victory, they are now only one point behind the safety of 15th place. Less than two minutes had been played when Hertha had their first good chance. Mickaël Cuisance had broken through in the penalty area and passed back from the byline. Fabian Reese got to the deflected ball and put it wide from just under five meters. The bottom-of-the-table team dominated the early stages and quickly had an opportunity to take the lead. Deyovaisio Zeefuik carelessly lost possession in the penalty area, but Noah Pesch headed Lubambo Musonda's perfect cross well wide (9'). Magdeburg enjoyed around 70 percent possession in the first 20 minutes and were significantly more dangerous than the Berliners, who, after five consecutive wins in the 2. Bundesliga without conceding a goal, finally conceded a goal in the DFB Cup. But it was an easy pill to swallow, as they had scored six against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the round of 16. One of those goals was scored by Kennet Eichhorn. The 16-year-old talent missed the match against Magdeburg due to muscular problems. After just under half an hour, Hertha became more active, but there were no further chances before halftime in a game of mediocre quality. Unlike in the first half, the visitors had the first good opportunity after the break. Mateusz Zukowski slid in to meet a cross from Falko Michel, but was a fraction of a second too late, making the ball difficult to control. The only loud moments came when chances were created. Hertha fans groaned when a shot from Cuisance flew just wide of the Magdeburg goal. At the other end, goalkeeper Tjark Ernst prevented Hertha from falling behind with a save from Zukowski's header. After just over an hour, a fan was carried off to applause from the supporters. He was reportedly conscious again. The fans resumed their support accordingly. Magdeburg fans had reason to celebrate after Hertha lost concentration during a corner kick. The ball landed at Nollenberger's feet after the quickly executed set piece, and he fired it home from close range. Hertha Berlin then had to weather several counter-attacks before finally getting their best chance to equalize at the start of the nine minutes of added time. Magdeburg's goalkeeper Dominik Reimann made a superb save from Linus Gechter's close-range header, sending coaches Petrik Sander and Pascal Ibold, along with the entire Magdeburg team, into raptures. Ghrieb sealed the victory with his goal on a counter-attack. Starting lineups: Hertha BSC: Ernst - Zeefuik, Gechter, N.
