Easy and Cheap: DIY 8 track foam pressure pads
Maybe you've seen the video I did a few years ago on making easy and cheap foam 8T pressure pads. Those were using a 17' long, 1/2" wide, 3/8" tall roll of open cell weatherseal foam that's $4 from the local small hardware store. They were made in the traditional way of being flat top with squared off edges. Well, I've had this wrong size roll of foam for years that I bought accidentally. Didn't want to waste it, so came up with a non-traditional method to not have it go to waste. This roll is 1/2" height and 3/4" wide. This makes pad makimg even easier. Since the clear tape you put on top is also 3/4" wide, no trimming of it is needed. Use a little extra over-length of clear tape to wrap onto the underside. In doing this, it rounds the edges of the foam, which is good. Where the smaller 3/8" foam yields 2 pads from a 1 7/8" long piece, this makes 3 if you cut it right, lengthwise. With a traditional style pad, you would make a center slice so the foam sits flat on either side of the plastic divider flap. With these you mash the pad down and slide it under the flap. When the pad springs up, it's now pushed down to and 3/8" height. Also aided by the one or two holder pegs on edges of the pad area, which further stabilize. Doing it this way lends itself to using the stiff paper backing, vs removing it and affixing the pad to the back smooth side of the old pad strip. If you need to use the plastic strip for some reason, simply smear some superglue on it and stick the foam pad with the tape/paper backing right on it. Will work just fine.
