'From the archives' - Episode 52: Trains at Cholsey in January 2008

This video shows the result of a busy Saturday filming trains at Cholsey station, located on the Great Western Mainline (GWML) on 26th January 2008. In the video, we see a mix of the usual passenger traffic for the time, including CrossCountry Voyagers and FGW HSTs and Class 165s/166s. We also see several freight movements under the charge of EWS and Freightliner. Additionally, a Class 08 is seen working an engineering train on the adjacent Cholsey & Wallingford railway, following volunteers undertaking some track replacement work. Since this was filmed, the scene has been completely transformed by overhead electric wires, bringing in IETs and Class 387 on GWR services, replacing the dominance of diesel traction along the Thames Valley. Enjoy! About 'From the archives': This series will place a spotlight on the UK rail network between 2007 and 2012, showing trains, operators and scenes that, in many cases, have been lost to time over the past 18 years. All videos in this series was filmed with my old Panasonic DVD camcorder, so the quality will be lower than my more modern videos, but the footage still remains too good not to share! My aim is to release a weekly video from this series, so please stay tuned for dozens more videos in the future.
