The Trails The trails are well marked and easy to follow, with a mixture of flat dusty paths, steps, and a bit of rope work on Hehuan Sharp Peak (合歡尖山). Hehuan Main Peak (合歡山主峰) is the longest at 1.78km, with Hehuan East Peak (合歡山東峰) next at 1.05km, then Mt Shimen (石門山) at 0.78km. Hehuan Sharp Peak is the shortest of them all at just over 100m (or around 15 minutes uphill.) None of them are particularly difficult and can be done with just a daypack and in normal footwear. Transport: The four trails that we did are all within easy reach of the parking lot at the Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area (合歡山神林遊樂區). It takes about two and a half hours to drive there from Taichung City. Public transport is also available. Nantou Bus has a number of services, including one that departs from Taichung (both Gancheng Station (台中干城站) and the High-Speed Rail Station (台中高鐵站), stopping at Puli (埔里) and Qingjing Farm (清境農場).
