Misasa Onsen is divided into two hot spring groups, the Misasa Group (Misasa Ward) and the Yamada Group (Yamada Ward) to the north and south by the Mitoku River, and the water types are radioactive sodium chloride springs and radioactive simple springs. It is also Japan's largest radon hot spring region, and radon hot springs with a temperature of over 34 degrees Celsius are rare even by global standards. There are medical institutions that offer balneotherapy, and hot springs are used for a variety of treatments, such as hot spring pool therapy, drinking spring therapy, and mineral mud therapy, depending on the quality of the water. As a result, hot springs are said to have a high hormesis effect, and are visited by many people, not just tourists, but also those seeking medical treatment. The hot spring town of Misasa Onsen is lined with inns on both banks of the Mitoku River, and there is a riverside bath (riverside hot spring: 24 hours (cleaned in the morning on odd-numbered days), free of charge) at the foot of the Misasa Bridge. Onsen Hondori, located on the south side of the Mitoku River, is lined with small inns, restaurants, antique art shops, snack bars, souvenir shops, shooting ranges, and more, creating an atmospheric hot spring town. Kabuyu, said to be the oldest hot spring source in Misasa Onsen, is located in a quiet residential area a little way from the hot spring town, and is often frequented by local residents.
