Subsistence Homesteading in Alaska | Wood, Water & Salmon
Wood, water and meat are the essentials, and its time to stock up! Our weekly water fill up took us to the spring fed creek to fill our tank up. After that chore was finished, we turned toward the next chores of the day which is checking the fish wheel and gathering wood. The fish wheel caught us some more fish, and we shared how we like to fillet (especially handy when packing out lots of fish!). As local rural subsistence residents, we are allowed to harvest dead and down timber from the park, and we took a trailer load home to start splitting and stacking. A delicious dinner of Alaskan halibut and shrimp was a perfect end to the day!
