She immediately suspected her maid, Susanna Margaretha Brandt, who had shown clear signs of pregnancy for some time, although she had always denied it. Mrs. Bauer sent for Susanna, and when she couldn't be found, she summoned one of her sisters. The innkeeper's suspicions soon proved true. But where was the newborn child? The matter became a criminal case that not only stirred up emotions in Frankfurt.
