How To Be an Effective OH2 | 70% Better at Volleyball

After several requests for this specific video, here it is for all my OH2s and undersized volleyball players out there. If you want to play in college, and are smaller, here are some fundamental things you need to have in your bag to get on the radar of coaches. In this video, I complete a case study of JP Avila, a rising sophomore outside hitter at CSUN. Avila started in his freshman year on a competitive, nationally ranked program as a 6'0 outside. If you want to know what his coach saw in him during the recruiting process, what made him stand out as an outside vs. Libero, and what makes him special this is one you'll want to see. If you do all these things and work to develop your 1. Serve Receive at an elite level 2. Shot Selection and crafty attacking 3. Attacking Efficiency 4. Win the 1on1s. You will likely find yourself competing for an outside spot despite how tall you are. It's a new era of volleyball. As a coach in Division III, we see plenty of OH2 that are 6'0, and that same trend has been seen at the higher level of the NCAA with nationally ranked programs like CSUN. It might be a harder route to earn that starting spot if you're undersized, but the right coach is out there for you if you put in the work. I hope this video is helpful, thanks to all those who suggested it. Keep commenting what you want to see next. It helps me determine what content I can make based on the archived footage in my library. I look forward to seeing a great new crop of small and tall outsides and opposites alike going forward.
