On this beautiful sunny spring day, we explore the charming path leading up to this 1,000-year-old hilltop castle, built around 1060 by Duke Berthold II of Zähringen. Although now in ruins, Schauenburg Castle still holds much of its medieval charm. We’ll pass by a dry moat, walk alongside its impressive 4-meter-thick shield wall, and discover preserved remains of residential towers, a well, a cellar, and even a small chapel. The views over the valley are simply breathtaking, especially with nature awakening in early spring.
