[1980s] Kazuyoshi Hayakawa & Yuji Ohno - Fox Fire (Full Betamax Rip)
Tracklist: 1. Party Doll [0:00] 2. Glass Works [4:21] 3. Night Parade [8:21] 4. Short Order [13:21] 5. Quarter Light [17:38] 6. Sympathetic Vibration [21:35] Directed by Kazuyoshi Hayakawa Music by Yuji Ohno Tape purchased by me, ripped by Japanese Hoarder, additional audio edits by me So...what exactly is "Fox Fire"? Beats me! A friend of mine was doing some music digging when he suddenly came across this Betamax tape on Mercari JP and sent it down my way. According to the listing, this was a "dream collaboration" between Japanese commercial director Kazuyoshi Hayakawa and musician/composer Yuji Ohno—I'm unsure what "dream collaboration" meant in this scenario, however. Up until this tape was listed for sale, there was absolutely no information for it on the internet at all...as if it never existed. Even now if you try to search it up, you'll only get duplicate "ghost" search results (some of them possibly being malicious links) based off the one listing that was put up and later purchased by me. Anyways, as for the actual contents of the tape: it consists of 6 instrumental tracks by Yuji Ohno playing over footage of Las Vegas at night. The first 3 tracks are fusion-themed, while the last 3 tracks are more jazzy-themed—the visuals in the first half repeat in the second half with no edits. I will be completely honest: I guess you can say there is indeed an "aesthetic" of sorts, seeing these visuals paired up with BGM by Yuji Ohno. The tape's mysterious nature and the fact that very little info of it exists on the internet also certainly makes it appealing as well—however, for me...the fact that the visuals repeat in the second half kinda lowered whatever excitement I had for it. Still, visuals aside—the music is good! Yuji Ohno, for as popular as he is, still has many works that have yet to make their way onto the internet and I'm glad to have been able to secure another one of his works for archiving. I don't think this would have appeared on the internet for a very long time if I hadn't purchased it. Tape was recorded by Japanese Hoarder. There weren't many pops on this tape (only a few on like track 5 I believe) but I went and de-clicked it anyways. This being a tape and all, there was a lot of audible buzzing near the end of a track—I attempted my best to silence it and reduce it. It's not really present on the first 3 tracks but they were more noticeable on the last 3 tracks; I still tried my best to reduce them but remnants of them can be faintly heard in some spots just for a brief moment. It's baked really deep into the music and unfortunately with my current skills I couldn't remove them, but I don't think it should deter anyone's enjoyment of the music here. Some final notes: as of now I currently don't know what year this was released. But judging by the sound (and the fact that one of the tracks bares a small resemblance to another track Yuji Ohno did with the "Monica" sisters from a 1983 vinyl I ripped), it probably could have been released around 1983 or '84. Enjoy!
