Enjoy this quick peek of the glittering gemstones of Steinkaulenberg mine! We had a lot of fun exploring the tunnels and seeing all of the various crystals. It truly is remarkable! We also visited the gem camp to do some treasure hunting and channel our inner Josh Gates. We found several pieces of amethyst, calcite and smoky quartz. There is also a fantastic gift shop and plenty of gems for the avid rock lover. I was in heaven! It gets chilly down there! • Download the Hearonymus app and search for "Idar-Oberstein“ to be prepared for the Steinkaulenberg audio guide in English and other languages. Don't forget to bring earbuds! They have WIFI. • Bring a sweater because it's cold in the depths. hat or sunscreen • Bring sunscreen or a hat for the mining fields. It gets hot in the summer! Bring water or get some at the gift shop. The Felsenkirche only has one tour a day and we missed it so be sure to check the schedule and plan accordingly for your visit.
