Why “Traditional” Methods Don’t Work for Latin or Greek (or any language!) 2nd Language Acquisition

Teaching Latin and Ancient Greek in most countries involves the learning of grammatical rules and the translation of ancient texts with a dictionary, but this leads to very little real acquisition of the language. While the grammar-translation method is thought of as "traditional," it is actually a novelty of the past two centuries, and was once common in the teaching of modern languages as well, but thanks to the studies of the past 50 years, grammar-translation has been discarded as unhelpful at best, and harmful at worst, at least in the teaching of modern languages. No language can be acquired via grammar translation, ancient or modern, and this video will tell you why this is.
