But what about the neutral conductor? Can it be shared? In 6.2.6.2.1, NBR5410 states that the neutral conductor cannot be common to more than one circuit and states in 6.2.6.2.2 that the neutral conductor of a single-phase circuit must have the same cross-section as the phase conductor. That's right, the neutral conductor cannot be shared with more than one circuit and cannot have a smaller cross-section than the phase conductor. Regarding having the same cross-section as the phase conductor, anyone who thinks that, as with the ground conductor, it's enough to follow a table, in this case table 48, is completely mistaken. You can only reduce the cross-section of the neutral conductor in a three-phase circuit with a neutral conductor and whose phase conductors have a cross-section greater than 25 mm², provided that the circuit is presumably balanced, under normal service, the phase current does not contain a third harmonic rate and multiples greater than 15%, and the neutral conductor is protected against overcurrents according to 5.3.2.2. So it's best to forget about reducing the cross-section of the neutral conductor. So that's it folks, be very careful with certain practices and slogans that are repeated by many electricians, but do not correspond to reality. The tip is: neutral conductor, always with the same cross-section as the phase conductor and not shared with more than one circuit.
