This exercise is different from the exercises you're familiar with. It's a sensorimotor exercise from Pohl Therapy, which isn't about stretching or strengthening, but rather about releasing tension through the brain. Similar to progressive muscle relaxation, the tension is first consciously increased—so that you can then release it. The difference is the very slow and controlled release of the muscle, often combined with counterpressure. This allows the brain to regain control of the muscles. It is therefore very important that you perform this exercise slowly and mindfully – and without any thought of performance or training.
