The Bow, The String, and The Arrows | Psalm 127

Psalm 127:3 says, “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” In this Father’s Day message, we look at the powerful picture of children being like arrows in the hand of a mighty man. But we also go deeper into the bow and arrow picture. The bow represents the law of God — structure, truth, boundaries, correction, and direction. The string represents the grace of God — mercy, love, relationship, prayer, tenderness, and connection. A bow without a string cannot launch the arrow. A string without the bow has no structure. Law without grace becomes harsh. Grace without truth becomes weak. But when law and grace work together, children can be shaped, strengthened, aimed, and released into the purpose God has for their lives.
