Juan Manuel Lopera, born and raised in Medellín for 23 years, tells us how, despite the violence in his neighborhood that claimed the lives of several family members during his childhood and nearly led him astray from the path of peace on several occasions, it also gave him the perspective that has made him the leader of a project transforming education worldwide with technology. Along with his team of over 250 people and a direct presence in countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina, and India, Juan Manuel has chosen to believe he can make a difference in education, even though financial reasons forced him to drop out of university shortly after starting his studies. He was later recognized as an Illustrious Citizen of Bella María during the municipality's centennial celebration, a model entrepreneur by the Medellín Chamber of Commerce, declared the most outstanding young entrepreneur in Antioquia, a TOYP (Toy of the Year) by the Junior Chamber International, the award for the most innovative company in the country two years in a row, recognized with the Order of Knight by the Congress of the Republic, a TR35 from MIT as Innovator of the Year, and received other important international awards for innovation and education. s This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
