Güterschleichweg Ahlten – Güterumgehungsbahn zwischen Hannover und Lehrte

Just a quick look around to see what's going on – think again! North of Ahlten (a district of the town of Lehrte), three railway lines run parallel: • the Hanover freight bypass • the Hanover–Brunswick line and • the Hanover–Lehrte S-Bahn line So, as expected, it was quite busy. Especially on the freight bypass, which train drivers sometimes jokingly call the "freight shortcut," trains were constantly coming and going. On the long-distance tracks, there were numerous ICE and IC trains. I even caught one of the last locomotive-hauled international IC trains from Berlin to Amsterdam – pulled by an NS Vectron. These services were already being operated by many ICE 3 neo trains at that time, and completely by ICE 3 neo trains since November 1, 2025. Also noticeable was the prevalence of dual-mode locomotives, namely Stadler Eurodual and Siemens Vectron Dualmode.
