The Quest For England - In Which I Explore The Sussex Downs near Woodingdean
The Sussex South Downs are beginning to fascinate me more and more. After the second World War much was bulldozed, flatten, scraped and turned into monoculture. I am curious to see how the landscape has changed and out it is being used today. I am in north-east of Woodingdean in East Sussex exploring some of the Access Land where the sheep still graze and remote patches of hay grasses still thrive, but much of the wild life of the past 100 years and before have gone. I think few of us realise what terrible changes have happened to this incredible landscape.
