Presentación del libro "La historia militar y la sociedad"

On Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the book *Military History and Society*, co-published by the Ministry of Defense and Doce Calles Publishers, will be presented in the "Spanish Army" auditorium of the Institute of Military History and Culture, located at Paseo de Moret, No. 3, Madrid. Admission is free until capacity is reached, and parking will be available during the event. The book is a compilation of the papers presented at the Congress held by the Spanish Association of Military History (ASEHISMI) in Toledo in 2024 and covers a variety of topics related to the necessary dialogue between military history and society as a whole. Alberto Guerrero Martín and Víctor García González, coordinators and editors of the Congress papers, will speak at the event, and will be introduced by David García Hernán, president of the Spanish Association of Military History. Military History and Society is a work that seeks to connect military history with the modern world. It brings together researchers and popularizers who analyze how to make historical knowledge accessible to the general public without sacrificing academic rigor. While military history is generating increasing interest, it is often transmitted to society in an incomplete or distorted way and is sometimes confined to overly specialized circles. Therefore, it is necessary to build bridges between the academic world and the research community and society as a whole, considering its plurality and diversity of interests. Through varied examples—from archaeology and reenactment to video games, art, and education—the book's chapters demonstrate that it is possible to tell military history in a rigorous, accessible, and visually compelling way. This work not only documents best practices but also invites us to set aside preconceived ideas, break down prejudices between academics and popularizers, and collaborate to build a more open, pluralistic, and useful military history for understanding the present.
