What does everyday life look like today in a country that is changing faster than our imaginations can keep up? What truly worries contemporary Chinese society? What in Western narratives about China constitutes a reliable diagnosis, and what is a convenient stereotype? The conversation was moderated by Paweł Błach. Sinologist, translator, and literary scholar. An expert on the political and social issues of the East Asian region, particularly China and the Republic of Korea. He is interested in the historical and cultural sources of the changes and processes taking place in this region of the world. His academic specialization is classical Chinese literature and the culture of ancient China. He speaks contemporary and classical Chinese and translates works of Chinese literature into Polish. A popularizer of knowledge about Asia. Author of the publications "China Without Makeup" (2016, 2021), "South Korea: The Republic of the Elements" (2018, 2024), "Taiwan: Tea on a Powder Keg" (2025), and co-author of "New Game of Chinese" (2024). From 2020 to 2022, he hosted the "Project Asia" webinar series at SWPS University's Culture Zone and the "China Talk" expert interview series. At SWPS University, he serves as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and heads the Department of Asian Studies and the Center for East Asian Civilizations. He teaches courses on China and East Asia, their literature, culture, and art.
