I was good at drawing, so I wanted to become an artist, but when I found out I had to attend prep school to get into art school, I gave up because it was too much trouble. With a mother who was a calligrapher and a grandmother who was a Japanese-style painter, I learned about the brush from a young age. At the age of 18, after carving his own signature seal, he became interested in seal carving and decided to pursue it as a career. He traveled to China and studied calligraphy and seal carving under Professor Gao Huimin of Capital Normal University for two years. He currently spends his days carving seals at Kamakura Tensuke, a seal carving specialty shop in Kita-Kamakura.
