Isaiah 61 1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the meek; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to bestow on those who mourn in Zion a crown instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. 4 They will rebuild the ancient wastes, they will raise up the former ruins, and they will renew the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations. 5 Strangers will come and pasture your flocks; foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers. 6 But you will be called the priests of the Lord, and you will be called the ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of the nations and boast in their glory. 7 Instead of your shame, you will have double honor; instead of shame, you will rejoice in your inheritance; therefore you will possess double in your land and have everlasting joy. 8 For I, the Lord, love justice and hate robbery and iniquity; I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their descendants will be known among the nations, their descendants among the peoples; all who see them will acknowledge them, the family blessed by the Lord. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will be joyful in my God; For he has clothed me with the garments of salvation and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a turban, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
