The Westbury White Horse: Legends of Alfred the Great and the Battle of Ethandun
A visit to Bratton Camp (or Castle), an Iron Age hillfort in Wiltshire which also contains Neolithic and Bronze Age barrows, and is adjacent to a large white horse cut into the chalk an unknown number of centuries ago. The fort and the horse are linked in popular myth and legend to Alfred the Great's major victory over the Danish (Viking) leader Guthrum at the 878 Battle of Ethandun. 0:00 Introduction 2:14 Neolithic and Bronze Age barrows 3:05 Iron Age hillfort 6:39 The Battle of Ethandun 10:39 The Westbury White Horse 14:06 King Alfred's Tower and why the Alfred love-in? 16:28 Outro Sources, credits, transcript: https://pedestriandiversions.github.i...
