Split Rock Wilds - Extreme, Gnarly Trails and Features!!

I took a much needed trip up the north shore to get reacquainted with Split Rock Wilds! I have only been there twice. I focused on the southern side of the trail system. I parked in the mountain bike lot in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. I really focused on the black diamond Edenborn Cluster and rode all of those trails twice, (Edenborn, Madeira, Hesper and Charley.) It involved a ton of climbing to do that, but it was well worth the effort. I couldn’t do the Madeira drop, due to an overgrown tree branch that was blocking the mid air take off and a fallen tree at the end of Charley prevented me from completing the gnarly roll down ending. I rode the fun black diamond slab feature, Berg, on the way to the Edenborn Cluster. I also rode plenty of rock slabs and roll downs along the Mail Route trail. I hit both lines on the black diamond Nelson’s Ledges and black diamond Charlie Girl. Charlie Girl was a first for me and it was a long and gnarly trail with lots of challenges uphill and down! It was a hot and humid day and I was really feeling it towards the end of the ride. Thirteen miles on those trails in that heat was exhausting! I can’t wait to get back up there and ride the northern side of the trail system.
