How much Power do car audio tweeters need?? The answer may surprise you!

A quick benchtop test of tweeter audio output and how many watts you need to match tweeters to your woofer output. Tweeter specifications are confusing, so I perform the 'tune it by ear' method using Room EQ Wizard to measure the frequency response output of a 6.5" midrange and Super-tweeter combination. The goal is to set the amplifier gain for the tweeter to match the output of the midrange and create a 'flat' frequency response curve, then measure the amplifier output for the tweeter to determine how much power is really needed for your tweeters. Here's our process: Setting the Stage: We've adjusted the amplifier gain to deliver 100 watts to the midrange, with the tweeter starting at zero. Balancing Act: Introducing white noise, we'll meticulously fine-tune the tweeter gain for a seamlessly flat response. The Reveal: After achieving our flat response, we measure the voltage output from the amp to the tweeter. And the result? With the midrange booming at 100 watts, our tweeter only requires a modest 2.4 watts to synchronize perfectly.
