The Downfall of Level 5: From Masterpieces to AI-Slop
Yokai Watch, Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Ni No Kuni are beloved game series cherished by many. All these games were developed by the Japanese game studio Level 5. While the studio became known worldwide in the early 2010s due to games such as Professor Layton and Yokai Watch, their success was quickly followed up with their downfall. Level 5 used to be one of the main reasons for why Nintendo consoles were great, but towards the end of the 2010s all their game series lost popularity, causing them to disappear from the western markets. Now, many years later, Level 5 wants to celebrate a big comeback with games like Holy Horror Mansion, Decapolice and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. However, this comeback is often overshadowed by one major controversy: Level 5's use of generative AI. #professorlayton #yokaiwatch #level5
