Baofeng BF-888 frequency adjustment and disassembly
Help support the channel, basic level for only £0.99 or early access for an extra £2.00: / @paulmcgeem0wnu In this video I look at how to pull a Baofeng BF-888 handheld radio up onto frequency again if it has drifted off frequency by a long way, often a result of the age of the crystal used as reference in the radio. In all these radios it is done by a trimmer adjustment close to the bottom left of the board, however the video also shows that the BF-888 has evolved over the years, in that the crystal is not visible on the same side of the board on the circa 2024 (a 2023 dated boad) over the circa 2016 one where you can clearly see the crystal and it is a surface mount component rather than a through hole one which the board has provision for. When making this adjustment it is important to use the correct tool, I got my trimmer tools from Amazon, NEVER use a screwdriver or you will damage the preset. The screws holding the case closed at the bottom are Torx T7, I bought a screwdriver kit from the local B&M quite some time ago, so worth checking their stores for it, it is sold under the Rolson brand, the spudger I used is an iSesamo spudger which I got from iFixit. This video is the first video to be uploaded on the newer but slower BT supplied connection which I am using while finances are a bit tight, the duration for upload was quoted at 18 minutes for this video which is 22 minutes in length, the connection is using the existing fibre line so I can upgrade the speed again later when finances permit. Baofeng BF-888s are available from all the usual suspects like Amazon, AliExpress, Temu, Wish and various other places, they're also available as PMR446 type approved radios, with different fixed antennas, under the PNI brand, I looked at a pair of these last year and the video is still on the channel in the back catalogue. The BF-888 is a popular choice to build an Allstar node with, instructions are out there to convert the earlier ones but I am unsure about the later one that I have, this will be worth a look at at a later date when I can get the parts to build an Allstar node as that has been on the to-do list for a while. #hamradio #pmr446 #baofeng #electronics #radiorepair #disassembly #disassembling
