A programming interface for the Baofeng BF-T1
In this video I build a programming interface for the Baofeng BF-T1, a very small, compact and low powered handheld primarily for UHF but one of the units I have is programmed for VHF as well so perhaps it can work there but I'll have a video coming up later about that. The programming cable is not standard, it uses the micro-USB port on the bottom of the radio rather than the speaker/mic port on the side, a standard micro-USB cable will not work for this, instead you need a cable with a serial to USB converter as typical of the standard programming cables for the bigger Baofeng radios like the UV5R, the only difference being the connector, which as mentioned is a micro-USB port rather than the Kenwood-type normally used. I had left over from my build of a programming cable for the Motorola GM350 2 spare serial to USB boards, these use a mini-USB connector, the only positions required are TXD, RXD, GND and VCC, for this I used an offcut from a broken USB cable, with red and black going to the VCC and GND respectively, the green going to TXD and white to RXD, this was then connected to the micro USB connectors in this order, the pad to the far left (1) is red (VCC), the next pad (2) is not used, the next pad after this (3) is white (RXD), then the next pad (4) is green (TXD) and then the rightmost pad (5) is black (GND), after I soldered these I covered it in glue lined heatshrink. After I finished the build I plugged it into the computer, the board was recognised (these boards are based on the FT232 by FTDI rather than the Prolific PL2303 or the QinHeng CH340 but any of these should work fine), but the question that remains, does the radio recognise it? That is answered in the video at the end. The USB connectors I used are these: https://amzn.eu/d/04IHSdcM and the serial to USB boards are these ones: https://amzn.eu/d/07CDF4QZ, the listing for the serial to USB board shows the connection positions in one of the pictures, for the USB connectors a picture is provided by a customer review as to the pinout of the connector, however I have gone over the wiring for this project above but do ask again in the comments for clarification should you need it #hamradio #electronics #diy #baofeng #VHF #UHF Help support the channel, basic level for only £0.99 or early access for an extra £2.00: / @paulmcgeem0wnu
