SURYA.CO.ID, Kediri - The atmosphere at the third plenary session of the 2026 Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) National Conference (Munas) and Grand Conference (Konbes) at the Al Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Mojo District, Kediri Regency, East Java, became heated during discussions regarding the location of the 35th NU Congress on Monday afternoon (June 22, 2026). The session, which was the closing agenda for the Munas-Konbes, initially proceeded normally, with discussions on several recommendations from the commissions. However, the atmosphere changed when the session leaders began discussing recommendations regarding the location of the NU Congress, scheduled for August 1-5, 2026. The plenary session was chaired by KH Ahmad Said Asrori, Secretary General of the PBNU, accompanied by KH Asrorun Ni'am, Secretary of the Syuriyah PBNU, and KH Mohammad Nuh, Secretary of the 2026 NU National Conference and National Conference Steering Committee (SC). During the discussion, the forum received a report from the organizational commission that had previously proposed five regions as potential hosts for the 35th NU Congress. The five regions were West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Java, West Java, Jakarta, and West Sumatra. The atmosphere became tense when East Java was mentioned as the location for the Congress.
