The deal includes postponing the conscription of ultra-Orthodox men and exempting yeshiva students from military service, along with preventing the arrest of draft dodgers, in exchange for the ultra-Orthodox's support for legislation that weakens the judiciary. This includes splitting the position of Attorney General and establishing a politically motivated commission of inquiry into the events of October 7th, rather than an independent, official one. The opposition and the families of those killed on October 7th accuse Netanyahu of exploiting the soldiers' blood to remain in power and weakening the army at a critical time. Observers believe the deal reflects a shift in the state's identity toward a more religiously conservative model, with religious forces seeking to transform Israel into a Halakha (religious) state. Although the agreement may grant the government additional time, it is described as a temporary and fragile truce that could collapse with the first political or electoral test, leaving Netanyahu with a hefty electoral bill in the future.
