VN24 info - 10.12.2020 - current pictures from today - Around noon, an accident occurred on the A43 freeway near Witten Herbede (Germany) underneath the Wittener Straße bridge. An excavator transported on a flatbed trailer was loaded too high for the bridge passage. As a result, the boom hit the bridge structure and crashed onto the highway. The structure of the bridge was so badly damaged that a structural engineer initially had to declare it unstable. The bridge and the A43 highway below had to be closed between Witten-Heven and Sprockhövel for the duration of the salvage and investigation. Currently, the Witten Herbede off-ramp and on-ramp in the direction of Wuppertal are closed. The excavator has been recovered by a towing company. This is an informational film.
