The Salomon S-Lab Phantasm 3 is the third generation of the French brand's racing shoe. This shoe has a lot to say aesthetically and hides some secrets worth mentioning in this preview. The first and most noticeable feature is the upper. Salomon has decided to grab everyone's attention with an upper that is truly surprising. The Salomon S-Lab Phantasm 3 features a kind of elastic mesh, similar to a gaiter, that wraps around the entire upper and was developed with the help of a Swiss company (Swiss Side) specializing in the aerodynamic effects of different materials. The foot enters this boot from the side, thanks to a vertical cut on the side of the shoe that makes it easier to slip on and off. Inside, you'll find a traditional lacing system with regular laces to provide the correct tension, much like a classic upper. The midsole of the Salomon S-Lab Phantasm 3 uses a double layer of Energy Foam+, Salomon's signature PEBA material. The new feature in this model is increased cushioning (3mm) in the forefoot to enhance rebound and facilitate toe-off. The Energy Blade carbon fiber plate runs along the midsole. Finally, the outsole features the classic Contagrip, the renowned rubber compound from the French brand and arguably one of the best performing in the industry. In the sole design, Salomon makes its intentions clear, incorporating a slightly textured rubber in the forefoot to support the most explosive moment of the entire transition—the moment where we'll notice the difference.
