Iran’s Long Reach? How Dissident Showman Fereydoun Farrokhzad Was Murdered Far From Home

Dozens of Iranian dissidents have been killed over the past decades, many of them abroad. Rights activists have linked the “chain murders” to Iranian authorities. Some cases have been solved, others have not. Among the most famous victims widely linked to the “chain murders” was iconic artist and political activist Fereydoun Farrokhzad. He was killed in his apartment in Bonn in 1992. His decaying body was found with a knife lodged in his mouth, and another in his back. Nearly 30 years later, the case remains unsolved. German lawmaker Omid Nouripour told Radio Farda that there is “obvious political pressure...not to go into details.” Germany has released little information on the case, citing its ongoing nature. But a new investigation reveals, among other things, police records suggesting Iran "could not accept" Farrokhzad's activism and used a "confidant" to help kill him.
