At the conclusion of the Eucharist celebrated at Krywlany Airport, St. John Paul II addressed heartfelt words of thanks and blessing to the faithful. The Pope referred to the unique character of Białystok – a city situated at the crossroads of cultures and traditions, a city open to dialogue and the witness of faith. In his words, he left the region's residents a spiritual testament, encouraging fidelity to Christ and the Gospel. During this historic meeting, the Holy Father also announced important decisions regarding the organization of the Church in Podlasie. He announced the establishment of the Diocese of Białystok and the Diocese of Drohiczyn. Their first Ordinaries were Bishop Edward Kisiel and Bishop Władysław Jędruszuk. John Paul II also established cathedral churches for both new dioceses, emphasizing the significance of these events for the life of the Church in northeastern Poland.
