We Cubans have spent decades thinking about how to end the dictatorship. But the real question isn't how a regime falls, but how to prevent another from taking its place. In this video, I analyze the great lesson learned from the founding of the United States and why it could be decisive for Cuba's future. History shows that defeating a tyranny is only the beginning. The real challenge comes when you have to build institutions capable of preventing a new ruler from concentrating the same power as the previous one. That was the challenge the Founding Fathers of the United States faced after independence, and it will likely be the greatest challenge for a future Cuban republic. We will discuss the U.S. Constitution, the separation of powers, federalism, civic culture, the role of civil society, and the differences between a simple political transition and a genuine national refounding. We will also analyze why the examples of Spain and Chile are not comparable to the Cuban reality, the enormous economic deterioration inherited from Castroism, and the importance of designing institutions that outlast any political leader. This video doesn't aim to idealize any country or offer magic solutions. Its goal is to open a conversation about how to build a Cuba where no ruler is ever again above the law.
