It is the biography of the Bengali feminist Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain (রোকেয়া সাখাওয়াত হোসেন ). Her birthday ( i.e. 9th December) has been celebrated as Begum Rokeya Day ( বেগম রোকেয়া দিবস ). She was the thinker, writer, educator and political activist in British India. Her parents were Jahiruddin Muhammad Abu Ali Haidar Saber and Rahatunnessa Choudhury. In her childhood, she was deeply impressed by the eldest brother Ibrahim Saber, and her immediate elder sister Karimunnesa Khanam Chaudhurani. She was taught Bengali by Karimunnesa, and English by Ibrahim. When she was 18 years old, she married 38-years-old Khan Bahadur Sakhawat Hussain who was an deputy magistrate of Bhagalpur in Bihar state. As a liberal, Sakhawat Hussain encouraged Rokeya to continue learning Bengali and English. He also encouraged her to write creative pieces in Bengali language. Rokeya started her literary career in 1902 with a Bengali essay entitled Pipasa (Thirst). She later published the books Sultana's Dream and Matichur in 1905. She also wrote two famous novels named Padmarag (1924) and Abarodhbasini (1931). Rokeya wrote a number of genres, short stories, poems, essays, novels and satirical writings, developing a distinctive literary style, characterised by creativity, logic and a wry sense of humour. Her writings called upon women to protest against injustices and break the social barriers that discriminated against them. After her husband's death, she established a high school, named Sakhawat Memorial Girls' High School in Bhagalpur. But due to the family dispute, she was forced to move the school in 1911 to Calcutta. In 1916, she founded the Muslim Women’s Association, an organization that fought for women’s education and employment. She died on 9 December 1932.
